Week 10A - Blogging for Business

Blogging benefits business when the marketing strategy targets emotions and feelings, and tries to make a personal connection. The blog's purpose has to catch the eye of the customer, and also hold their attention enough to read a blog versus look at images. Blogs are not as effective with image based marketing.

Non-profit groups whose goal is to fundraise for charity would benefit from blogging. Blogging allows the "space" for these organizations to write at greater length about their cause and make that personal connection. If the group fundraises for a cure for a disease, why did they choose this disease? Did the founder lose a loved one to this illness? Related to non-profit organizations, businesses that donate a portion of their profits to charity can use blogging to say why they chose this particular charity. What is their personal story that makes them connected to a helping a particular cause or group? These are the personal touches that a blog enables a business to form a common bond to others with.

Political polling businesses could also gain from blogging. They could express opinion in detail as opposed to quick news bits found on platforms like Facebook, and then use analytics to track what demographics appear interested in their opinions on key issues of day or week.

In recent media trends, it seems there is a desire for people to see "important" people as more "common" people with the same concerns and day to day lives. Blogs allow business to shed light on "important" people such as founders and CEO's by giving insight to their personal lives and why they have chosen this business as a passion. Blogs can facilitate a customer connection or loyalty to a company in markets that may be competitive or saturated.
